Punta Mujeres
  • Punta Mujeres

  • A few years ago, while on vacation in Buenos Aires, I decided to get up see the sunrise rather than stay up. I left my wife sleeping in bed and hailed a cab down to the newly gentrified inner harbour area of Puerto Madero. Upon arrival, I was accosted my a number of armed Argentinian soldiers and told that I was immediately in front of the Argentine Naval Headquarters and due to reasons of national security, I would not be able to take any photographs. I assured them that I wouldn't and walked off down the seawall to a place where I would be safely out of view. I happened to catch site of a rower who must have been out since well before dawn. He was positioned perfectly in front of the Punta Mujeres bridge, designed by Spanish superstar architect, Santiago Calatrava. I rushed to set up my tripod and was able to snap three quick photos before he placed his oars in the water and rowed away. This image is my favourite of the three.
